On the 18th of August of this year, the COBAEH (Colegio de Bachilleres del Estado de Hidalgo) English teachers began an at-distance training program to polish their English language skills.
These highly-committed teachers are based throughout the state. Their teaching scenarios vary greatly. Many of them are working with large groups in non-urban areas where connectivity is not a reality. They are limited to very simple teaching and learning techniques. The same must be said for their training.
The COBAEH teachers are working on the Learn Social platform that allows them to download their lessons and work offline. Eighty percent of the activities are graded offline, so they can receive immediate feedback. Platform statistics shows that over 60 of the 160 teachers enrolled in the course spend the necessary time practicing their oral and written skills showing constant improvement in their over-all language development.
Mantis ELT is providing the online tutors for this pilot program. We offer technical support as well as comments and suggestions through the social learning speaking and writing activities.
It has been our privilege to get to know this group of teachers as they share past anecdotes, present-day concerns, and plans with us in their speaking and written texts. We are quite amazed by the dedication of these teachers to improve their skills in order to make learning English a much more pleasant and rewarding experience for their many students.
